In my youth I had an overwhelming penchant for travel. I had an old Chevy and my friends and I used it to explore the country. When I was 20 we took one marathon trip, driving from the West coast to Chicago, Miami, Washington, D.C. New York, Montreal, Toronto and back to Winnipeg. We were determined to see as much of the country as we could.
We only had one major problem with our travel plans -- we rarely had enough money. For us, gas was more important than food and when money got low we'd skinny down to eating only one meal a day.
Without money for gas, our grand adventure would have been over and we would have been stuck. Gas kept us on the road so we could live our dreams together.

2. How to Get More From Your MarketingMy 1951 Chevy got 17 miles to the gallon. Back in 1964 when gas cost thirty cents a gallon, I thought that was pretty good. Now in 2009, as you know, the technology exists to go much further with a gallon of gas.
With the current cost of gas jumping between $2 and $4, I want to get more for each dollar I spend. My current car gets 30 mpg, and I know I could be driving one that gets over 50 mpg.
When you spend money on gas to fuel your car you want it to get you as far as possible. The same is true with your marketing. When you spend money on an ad, a mailing, a website or even cold calling you want it to generate the greatest number of leads and sales.

The secret is using the key words, the key phrases that trigger a response, that generate a lead, get people calling and get the sales conversation going. For years I stuck with the standard type of marketing messages most businesses use and through sheer persistence I made a few sales and made a living.
Then I discovered what triggers a response and triggers sales. It's what my colleague, Charlie Cook calls your "15 Second Marketing Message". And his book, "The Insider Secrets to 15 Second Marketing" is one of the best I've ever read.
If you could only buy one book to help you grow your business, this is the first one I'd recommend.
